Description

A large dark ship's propeller fills the left foreground beside the quayside. Beyond the calm water, several masted sailing boats and two larger steamships with funnels are moored along the harbour. A metal winch frame stands at the right, and a small open boat and pipes lie on the ground near the edge of the water.

FAMAGUSTA Horace White "Cyprus is a right good Isle, and a fair and great, and it hath four principal cities within him . . . And at Famagusta is one of the principal havens of the sea that is in the world; and there arrive Christian men and Saracens, and men of all nations."
