Description

A line of workers digs a long trench across flat, stony ground, some kneeling and others standing with shovels and a pick. A man in a pith helmet stands at the left edge with one arm outstretched, and spoil heaps line the sides of the cut. Small white tents and scattered trees stand in the distant background under a pale sky.
