Series·Kourion, Penn Museum expedition

Object cards

3 documents, 134 object cards

Sites: Kourion, Episkopi-Bamboula, Kourion-Kaloriziki, Kourion-Ayios Ermoyenis

This series, the largest in the collection, holds the expedition's object cards: 137 folders and 12,737 pages. The cards are filed by site, then by class of object, then by the expedition's field number, in which a letter marks the class: P for pottery, Sh for sherds, L for lamps, M for metal, St for stone, GL for glass, B or Bo for bone, F for figurines, T for terracottas, I for inscriptions, Mo for mosaics, SH for stamped amphora handles, C for coins and A for architecture. There are 47 folders for Bamboula, including sixteen of sherd bags by excavation unit and a list of numbers used; 25 for the Kaloriziki cemetery, with the packing lists from the division of its tomb finds; 52 for the city site and the Apollo sanctuary, which the finding aid calls the "Kourion Complex"; and 12 for the Ayios Ermoyenis (St Hermogenes) cemetery. Two folders of "Mitford Cards" sit beside the inscriptions; T. B. Mitford's The Inscriptions of Kourion (1971) draws mainly on the expedition's finds.

The same field numbers appear in the Penn Museum's catalogue for the finds that went to Philadelphia: its record of a gold clasp from Tomb 1 at Ayios Ermoyenis, 63-1-82, gives the field number M276.
