3-5-39 which lies over the pebble pavement. In the west firm white clay is found ((drawing) of diagram, p. 154), going to wall II and to the line of the wall where it is missing in the west, and running under wall I. It is cut on the far side of, and partly in the line of, wall I by what seems to be a pit, full of red earth. This was probably sunk from a higher level, and not detected until now (see p. 161)

4-5-39 There is mixed brown earth with numerous stones in the line of wall II to the east. This and the gritty red 7.80 floor in 6b (b) are cut by the footing trench of wall VI. The footing trench of wall VI is filled with pieces of brick + small stones. This wall is very uneven, surely a foundation not meant to be seen. Photo Bam. of w 39:93 of walls I, I + VI with footing trench cleared

Dig below 7.80 in 6b (b), and find the same level as at 8.09 in (a), at 7.88 (S.). This 7.88 = 8.09 floor consists of clayey brown earth containing masses of white chavara. It is a white floor. (to p. 163)
