1-5-3921:13a (from p. 133) 13b: p. 161 red earth, possibly over the line of a wall, at the 7.59 level The 7.72 level is cut by wall VII

Margin left: 3-5-39

Isolate a slight depression in the west of 13a, adjacent to trial pit E, below 8.06. In the line of the wall to 21:8 we find a change of earth. In the west there is soft to red-brown earth with stones (p. 152:a) running to the footing trench of the W. wall of 21:8. This stops 10 cm. down at gritty red earth ([symbol: three dashed horizontal lines] of plan, p. 152), which is found elsewhere in the wall line at 8.06, and runs into 21:8. This gives way at 8.20 to still grittier earth. Both these layers cut the red earth with white grits which runs under the wall between 13+8. At 8.24 firm brown earth with grits and small stones is found in this area.

Margin left: 5-5-39 13b

Start removing the line of earth going E-W at the line between 13a and the S. ext., below 7.59. This earth contains much brick and stops with red-brown earth with white grits at 7.96. . (to p. 177)
