Dig below 8.35 (1st red. brown earth), and find firmer brown earth at 8.60. Pottery appears at this level.

2-5-39 Dig below 8.60 and find a floor of chavara plaster at 8.64. The lower part of a pithos (p. # ) and other sherds rest on this. The pithos contains a firm layer of grey ash, apparently in-situ. The pot may have served to make lye. The earth between 8.60 and 8.64 is light brown in colour and appears to have been trod. An erect stone held in place by clay, and a line of brick partly outline a rectangular depression in the east north, a bin of some sort. Photo Bam. 39. 128 of 21:23 at 8.64
