Removing the gritty red fill below 7.69 we find softer, cleaner browner earth at 7.70-7.91 7.91. This is an uneven layer, and lies thinly over wall III, (p. 102), which apparently belonging to the same early complex as wall II. In the south there was a change to dark gritty earth, more or less in the line of stones which may indicate an ^(or)/E-W wall. In the north the gritty fill stopped at the stone tumble.

26-4-39Digging below 7.91 in 13a we cut red earth with many white grits (but much less gritty than that above) and find clean sandy brown earth in the north, slightly more gritty redder earth in the north south (or rather middle). In the last meter to the south the gritty earth below 7.91 stops and its place is taken by grittier earth.

Margin left: 13b

In 13b we find the same gritty earth below 7.70 as below 7.91 in 13a. This stops in the line of wall I, where cleaner browner earth is found. The earth in the line of the wall lies in part (to p. 133)
