Warwick Wroth

fl. 1890–1908 · United Kingdom

British numismatist and museum staff member, active 1890–1908. Worked with Ready and H. Arnold Tubbs; wrote with John Arthur Ruskin Munro.

Life and work

  1. 1890
Ulbrich & Kiely say Munro and Tubbs excavated Salamis for the CEF from January 1890 'with the help of Warwick Wroth'. The 1891 report itself shows only his coin note, so his help is the coin work.

  2. 1891
Examined the coins found in the Cyprus Exploration Fund's 1890 Salamis excavations and furnished a note appended to the report: the bulk are Byzantine and late Roman, poorly preserved; Greek class little represented; one Ptolemy, a Macedonian regal bronze of 279-277 BC from the Agora, a gold half-solidus of Maurice Tiberius (AD 582-602), sestertii of Severus Alexander and Trajan. He later identified further bronze coins from the Site of the Granite Columns and the Sand Site.
