    While his masons opened the foundations of a house he was building on rising ground just north of Larnaca, he found many soft-marble sarcophagi without inscriptions, some holding several skulls with small terracotta vases around them; the Turks affected a claim on him as though he had disturbed Muslim burials, but were shown the tombs were far older.
