Life and work
- 1972Joined the American Expedition to Idalion as agronomist and student of ancient agriculture. Collected material from a wide variety of loci for pollen analysis and for water-sieving (flotation), and in the 1972-73 campaign tried to recover seeds from about 1,200 buckets of earth.
IdalionStager et al. 1974, p. xvii
- 1972Floated 1,209 buckets (ca. 10 litres each) from 109 provenances using a modified Struever flotation (55-gallon drums with a bottom valve, because of limited water). Most squares were sterile; surviving seeds were carbonised. Stewart discussed each square's botanical potential with the excavation superintendent and supervisor.
IdalionStager et al. 1974, p. 123
- 1973–1980Listed as botanist on the staff of the Idalion expedition for the 1973-1980 seasons.
