Life and work

    Appointed Caimakam of Ktima, in Cesnola's words 'chiefly on a letter of recommendation I had given him for the Pasha'.

    When Cesnola, exploring Neo-Paphos, had two Ktima 'notables' who insulted him arrested and imprisoned, the Caimakam called on him, interceded for their release, and was told he would be dismissed if he freed them without Cesnola's consent (Cesnola's account); the men were sentenced by the Cadi to a month, and released on the eve of Cesnola's departure after apologising in the presence of the Caimakam, the Greek Bishop and other officials.

    On Cesnola's second and last visit to Neo-Paphos, with Isaac H. Hall and S. W. Crawford, a captain, Yusuf Aga, met them with troops 'by orders from the Caimakam of Ktima' to escort Cesnola to Ktima.
