    During Michael Toumazou's visit to Athienou, his mother's hometown, Koursaris showed him the Malloura area, under 5 km south-west of town, where farmers had found ancient artifacts and there were looted tombs. Toumazou resolved to investigate it; this was the origin of the Athienou Archaeological Project (AAP).
