Bromley

fl. 1802

Active in 1802. Excavated with Joseph von Hammer-Purgstall and Keith.

Life and work

  1. August 1802
With Hammer and Keith, took the Tigre's boat and crew ashore to dig out a mosaic floor at Palaipaphos. Hammer's memoir, quoted by Maier, says Bromley 'knew everything better', laid hands on the work, probably had had too much port or claret, and hacked the mosaic to pieces; Hammer was angry, Bromley laughed. Two large mosaic pieces, a panelled fragment and two inscribed stones were taken aboard next morning.
