Postdoctoral researchers who are citizens or permanent residents of Cyprus or Greece have until 2 November 2026 to apply for the Early Career Fellowships in Hellenic Studies in Greece and Cyprus 2027–28. The Center for Hellenic Studies (CHS), Harvard University's research centre in Washington, DC, will appoint up to five fellows. Applicants need a PhD or its equivalent, defended before 1 July 2026, and must live in one of the two countries while they carry out the project.
Each appointment runs for a year from 1 July 2027. Fellows receive a $12,000 stipend to spend on the research as they judge best, a year's access to Harvard's electronic library resources, and limited travel costs (airfare and accommodation) for visits of up to 5 days to the CHS office in Nafplio and up to 15 days to Washington. The Nafplio office looks after the administration.
The scheme is meant for work on the ancient Greek world, taken broadly, that depends on being close to the material: archives, libraries, objects or sites. In Cyprus that can take in research on the Cypro-Archaic, Cypro-Classical and Hellenistic island.
Applications go through the CHS fellowship page by 23:59 US Eastern time on 2 November. Three PDFs are needed: a proposal of no more than 1,000 words, a CV, and published or forthcoming writing of no more than 10,000 words (bibliographies count towards neither limit). Applicants also name two referees; the system writes to them only after submission, and their letters are due by 9 November 2026. A scholar may apply for only one kind of CHS fellowship a year. The fellows will be listed on the CHS website by 1 March 2027, and questions go to fellowships@chs.harvard.edu.
