- 1869Its minister, George Bancroft, is said by Masson to have helped Luigi Palma di Cesnola obtain the dispatch of the archaeologist Carl Friederichs to Cyprus by the Berlin Museums; Friederichs bought stone objects, bronzes, terracottas, gems and glass for Berlin in autumn 1869.
