History
- 1982Almyras discovered during an archaeometallurgical survey connected with the Cornell excavations at Alambra; a badly damaged furnace was recovered.
Ayia VarvaraWalter FasnachtHerscher 1995
- 1988–1997Excavation at Ayia Varvara-Almyras, an ancient copper mining and smelting site, led by Walter Fasnacht of the museum; run jointly with the University of Zurich. Ten seasons had been completed by the Archaeological Reports survey; about 70% of the site excavated, three phases (Cypro-Archaic II, Cypro-Classical, Hellenistic), mining area in the west and smelting area in the east.
