Family-owned New York gallery and online auctioneer open since 1995, selling ancient coins and antiquities, with a regular line of low-estimate Cypriot pottery and terracottas.
About
A family-owned New York gallery and online auctioneer that opened in 1995 and describes itself as a third-generation family business1. It trades in ancient coins and in Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Islamic and Pre-Columbian antiquities, and says all its items come from local private collections and estates1. Its own site claims nearly three decades in the trade and offers buying and consigning evaluations3. The gallery holds life membership of the American Numismatic Society and the Florida Numismatic Association1,3.
Sales run on LiveAuctioneers, where 61 past catalogues are listed, and on Invaluable and Bidsquare1,2. A June 2020 sale, Ancient Artifacts, Coins, & Islamic Art, ran to 682 lots6.
Cypriot material is a regular minor line. Between June 2018 and December 2023 some 44 lots with Cypriot or Cyprus titles were sold under the gallery's name, among them Iron Age and Archaic jugs (gray ware, white painted, trefoil-spouted), bowls, bilbils, an askos, a neck amphora, terracotta warrior figurines and heads, and a few limestone heads, among them a male head of the 7th century BC2. Titles are brief, as in "Ancient Cypriot Pottery Jug c.1000 BC", estimates are typically USD 40-300 and hammer prices USD 30-5002. A Cypriot terracotta warrior of c. 1050 BC, lot 110 in the December 2020 sale Dr Touma Antiquities & Islamic Art Collection, printed a provenance from Eldert Bontekoe of Pegasi, Ann Arbor, Michigan7.
