History
- 1968Benjamin Kent bequeathed the majority of the Kent Collection (nearly 1,000 objects) to Harrogate Corporation, on condition of public display under the name 'The Kent Collection'; if refused it would go to Leeds University.
- 1969The council accepted the bequest in January 1969, conditional on Treasury waiver of estate duty, agreed by August 1969; it valued the collection at about 40,000 pounds.
