Kallos Gallery
London, United Kingdom · founded 2014 · closed 2025
Mayfair dealer in ancient art founded in 2014 by Baron Lorne Thyssen-Bornemisza, chiefly Greek antiquities with a few Cypriot pieces, at TEFAF Maastricht in most years until it closed in late 2025.
About
A Mayfair gallery named for the Greek word for beauty, Kallos Gallery was founded in 2014 by Baron Lorne Thyssen-Bornemisza, a director of its operating company from November 20139,14. According to the gallery, it offered Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Western Asiatic and European works chosen for aesthetic quality; one interview with its first director calls it the only commercial gallery devoted to the ancient Greek world9,18.
Glenn Lacki, who holds an Oxford doctorate in classical languages and literature, directed it in its early years. Madeleine Perridge joined as gallery director in 2016, and Beth Morrow is listed as a director on the 2022 team page4,9,17. The gallery issued catalogues from September 2017 to 2025 and mounted thematic exhibitions including Fragments, Warriors and Warfare, Animals of the Ancient World and The Hellenistic World13. Its exhibition pages record TEFAF Maastricht in 2020 and from 2022 to 2025, TEFAF Online in 2020 and 2021, London Art Week in 2021 and The Treasure House Fair13.
Cypriot pieces were a small part of the stock, and the online archive prints provenances for them. A Black-on-Red bowl of c. 750-600 BC, 29.2 cm across, came from a UK private collection formed since the 1960s, through Bonhams London in November 2001 (lot 1) and Charles Ede in 2002; the gallery compares it with Myres's Cesnola Handbook nos. 860 and 92710. A Bichrome juglet of the same date came from a UK private collection acquired on the London market between the 1970s and 2000, and a Cypro-Geometric III White Painted juglet with trefoil lip from an American collection acquired in the 1960s and 1970s11,12. The archive also lists a Cypro-Archaic II bronze incense-burner stand13.
The Antiques Trade Gazette reported the gallery's closure in December 2025, after about twelve years, and Perridge started her own firm in 20265,8.
The Cypriot collection
Cypriot pottery and bronzes are a small strand of the stock (Black-on-Red, Bichrome and White Painted wares, a bronze incense-burner stand), listed under the heading 'Cypriot' in the online archive; the gallery described itself as dealing in Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Western Asiatic and European antiquities, with Greek material its focus.
