The Cypriot collection
One full-size copper oxhide ingot with impressed mark, said to be ex 'di Palma collection, Famagusta'; deposited at the college per Merrillees's conjecture (2014)
History
- from 1952Schaeffer (as reported by Merrillees) said the Claremont ingot came from a hoard found clandestinely at Enkomi before 1952, was bought by a Famagusta dealer for 11 shillings and sold to the County Museum in Los Angeles; Merrillees finds no Cypriot ingot at LACMA and conjectures the dealer was George Basil Palma, who sold it to Harvey Mudd, who deposited it at the college.
