History
- 2006Summerer describes the UNDP-backed Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) as initiated in 2006 with a humanitarian mandate and EU financing; bi-communal teams of investigators, anthropologists, geneticists and about 50 archaeologists from both sides, trained by foreign forensic archaeologists, exhume persons killed in the 1963-74 conflict. Teams have equal Greek and Turkish members. Per Summerer, they also dig in historical buildings and protected archaeological sites, record ancient finds only randomly, and heavy machinery causes unrecorded destruction (Summerer's attributed assessment).
