The project
In 1963 the Department of Antiquities documented Tomb 4 at Mandres, Pendayia. The tomb had been looted, but much of its material was recovered: seven White Slip I flat-based bowls decorated in Bichrome technique, Base Ring I jugs and bowls, and two White Painted VI jugs1. V. Karageorghis dated it to the end of Late Cypriot IB, later than Mandres Tombs 1–3 of 19601. In 1964 four tombs of a Cypro-Archaic I-II cemetery were excavated at Koutsoullos, east of ancient Soloi, Pendayia2. Their pottery included torpedo-shaped jars, pointed-base amphorae, jugs, small jugs and saucer-shaped lamps, and the notice gives the group inventory number 1964/IV-30/1 without individual tomb numbers2.
