The project
In 1983 a bulldozer building the new road from Khalassa to Lophos partly destroyed three Early Cypriot chamber tombs at Chomatsies, Lofou, recorded in the Department of Antiquities rescue work1. The chambers were nearly circular and had already been plundered1. Tombs 5 and 7 contained Red Polished pottery; Tomb 6 yielded sherds only1. The report illustrates a jug neck with a relief snake and incised marks, made before firing, on its handle; it is 17.5 cm high as preserved1. The tomb group was acquired by the Limassol museum under inventory numbers LMRR 940 to 9421.
