The project
Construction work in the courtyard of the Ministry of Communications and Public Works at Ledra, Nicosia, led in 1982 to a rescue excavation by the Department of Antiquities1. It exposed traces of a possible Archaic sanctuary and a probable bothros holding objects from Cypro-Archaic to Hellenistic date, among them a bronze figurine of a young man and a limestone incense stand1,2. Beer catalogues a limestone temple-boy statuette from the courtyard, found with other objects in the bothros and probably belonging to the nearby sanctuary, and dates it to the last quarter of the 4th century or early 3rd century BC; it is Cyprus Museum inventory CS. 2650/23.
