Iskender cemetery: Department of Antiquities rescue work, 1980–1981

An intact tomb excavated in the Iskender cemetery north of Paphos in 1980, with a Black-on-Red II bowl, and Cypro-Geometric III and Cypro-Archaic I tomb material acquired in 1981.
The project
In 1980 the Department of Antiquities excavated an intact tomb (Tomb 10/80) in the known Iskender cemetery north of Paphos, where Bérard and Deshayes had excavated in the 1950s1. It held ordinary pottery and a Black-on-Red II (IV) bowl of unusual form, 7.5 cm high and 21.5 cm in diameter, which the notice suggests may imitate an imported Rhodian model1. In 1981 the Paphos Museum acquired material from two tombs, one of Cypro-Geometric III date from Iskender (Reg. 2458) and one of Cypro-Archaic I date about 1 km west of Stroumbi (Reg. 2457), both with ordinary pottery2.
