Kolossi: Department rescue of tombs (1962–1969)

The Department of Antiquities excavated three tombs at Kolossi between 1962 and 1969. In 1962 a small tomb at Vounarkotissa, west of the village, held five large White Painted IV and Bichrome IV amphorae, two Bichrome IV juglets with mushroom-shaped rims and shallow Red Slip II (IV) bowls, registered as no. 29 and listed under the Curium House museum¹. In 1968 a Hellenistic tomb at Bamboula, registered as no. 453, contained plain pointed-base amphorae, unguentaria, bronze mirrors, a silver and an iron finger ring and other small objects². In 1969 a tomb at Kafkalla, which the report describes as looted, yielded three large amphorae, two White Painted IV and one hybrid White Painted/Black-on-Red I (IV); the design on one is described tentatively as paired snakes or schematic birds. It is registered as no. 468, and the material was deposited at the Limassol regional museum³.
