The project
Test trenching in 2008 at plot 260 exposed the western limit of the Early Christian settlement at Kalavasos-Kopetra, under Chrysanthi Kounnou of the Department of Antiquities1. Walls standing directly on bedrock, 0.20 to 0.25 m below the surface, enclosed small, irregular rooms with floors of rectangular limestone slabs; the report records varying floor levels and workmanship, repaving and at least one room extension1. Roof tiles, sherds of cooking pots and storage vessels, a loom weight and ground stone tools were recovered1. The Department's annual report for 2008 reads the collapsed roofs and walls as extensive damage from Arab raids and links that damage to the abandonment of the settlement1.
