The project
Roman Tomb 2 at Ayios Dhimitrianos, in the village, was found in 1963 and registered as no. 1611; Tomb 1 had been excavated in 19581. The Department of Antiquities sponsored the work1. The tomb held undecorated Plain White jugs, many cooking pots, three jugs with a matte red slip, several glass unguentaria, numerous late-type clay lamps, gold crescent-shaped earrings, gold myrtle leaves and many iron shoe nails1. Karageorghis dates the unguentaria and lamps to the third century CE1. One lamp, illustrated as figure 48 and held in the Paphos museum, shows a person holding a vessel with an amphora placed in front of the figure1.
