The project
In the first half of December 1964 the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus, under A. Papageorghiou, cleared the ruined Asomatos and Panayia basilicas at Aphendrika, near Rizokarpasso1. The aim was to remove the debris filling the interiors, and the work was confined to moving stones lying on the ground, with no excavation1. V. Karageorghis reported it in his chronicle for 1964 under the heading "Recherches dans les basiliques d'Aphendrika"1.
