Man with leaf wreath
Description: | Man with leaf wreath The head of a votive statuette, presumably from idalion, in which the formal and stylistic changes in the Cyprical sculpture at the end of the 5th century become clear, already on the style of the 4th century BC.Previous, a slight inclination of the head to the right shows the departure from the originally strict frontality; The narrow, straight mouth with the slightly lowered mouth angles gives a pinched impression instead of the former archaic smile. The elongated, angular face has a low forehead, a strong nose and a wide chin area; The large, emerging eyes are formed concave, the eyelids plastically specified.Above the forehead a roughly grown hair roller, a tape with a stylized leaf wreath lies above; The short hair on the top is only given by scratch lines.Remains of the original red painting are still preserved on the lips.Bernhard-Walcher and others, the Cypricer Antique Collection in the KHM.Collection catalogs of the KHM Vol. 2, Vienna 1999 H. 12 cm |
