Votary Terracotta Figure

Upper part of terracotta female figure, probably a votary; hand-made body with applied and tool-worked details, and a mould-made face; body missing below the waist; her right hand is held upright with palm facing outwards, the left rests just below the breasts, bearing an indeterminate object (mostly obscured by her jewellery); she has a long face with exaggerated nose and pointed chin, a large incision separates the lips; on her head is an elaborate turban, behind which a single mass of hair falls down the back; she also wears ear-flaps which are incised with a tool; she is lavishly jewellery: long pendant earrings, a double chain choker with central disc, a large disc with pointed boss hangs between the breasts, large bracelets with incised detail on both wrists and armlets (possibly serpent-headed) further up each arm; made of buff clay with a slip or wash, faint traces of red and black painted detail.
