MINISTRY OF COMMUNICATIONS & WORKS.

DEPARTMENT OF ANTIQUITIES NICOSIA.

1st October, 1964

Dear Professor Schaeffer,

Thank you very much for your last letter. I am glad to say that the construction of the house is progressing very satisfactorily and by the end of October it will be habitable. My foreman and often myself visit the site and follow the progress made.

I shall be glad if you would let me know your plans for an excavation here this year so that I may make arrangements for Michael to be with you. With the present shortage of staff and with excavations at Salamis and elsewhere still going on I shall have to know by now how to "distribute" the foremen of the Department.

The situation here is now calm, but the political problem is as acute as ever.

With all good wishes to you both and the members of the Expedition. I wish you every good luck at Ugarit.

Yours sincerely,
