Handwritten: Dear Dr Schaeffer,
Thank you for your letter of 21st September. Masson has now been to the Khan and has found a few inscribed handles, but the material is so tightly packed that it would be quite a big job (in which he would need assistance) if he were to go through it all.
I have explained to him that we want him to prepare an appendix for our Enkomi volume on our inscribed material. It seems that Dikaios did not make this clear in the letter he left for Masson.
I have written to Plenderleith asking that, if the ingots and tablet are still with him when he gets my letter, he should keep them until you arrange to get Masson over to London to study them. I think in view of the difficulty Plenderleith encountered in getting the silver bowl to Paris through diplomatic channels I can hardly ask him to repeat the experience. I hope, however, these things may have already left the British Museum, in which case Masson will see them here before he leaves.
I shall attend to the matter of the instruments which your wife is bringing and trust she has no difficulty.
/I am
Dr. C.F.A.Schaeffer, M.A.,D.Litt., Enkomi.
