CONSULAR AGENCY OF FRANCE AT LARNACA (ISLAND OF CYPRUS)

French Republic

LARNACA 11 June 1949

No. 348

Mr Claude Schaeffer Archaeological Mission French

Dear Director,

I received yesterday (via Malta) your kind letter of 17 May 1949 and I hasten to express my very warm thanks for the copy of the offprint relating to the excavations at Enkomi that you were kind enough to send me.

For me it is a very interesting documentation, which I add to that that you were kind enough to send me previously (during the summer of 1947) and which showed the room of the bronzes and the first clearance work of the site that you are bringing up to date.

You ask me kindly to transfer to your current account at Barclays the amount of the Government grant. I am forwarding a copy of your letter to Mr P. Armand, our Consul at Malta, who already asked me, at the end of April, where he could pay you in order to sign the receipts relating not only to the current grant but also that of 1948 which remains outstanding (in the sense of Consular accounting at least since we only have receipts from Mr Megaw and from Barclays).

As I have obtained three months' leave of absence and am leaving for France this week I would be grateful if you would kindly contact Mr Armand, so that he may make the transfer directly to Barclays Famagusta.

Please accept, Dear Director, the assurance of my very distinguished consideration.
