Le Castel Blanc, 14 Rue Turgot, St. Germain-en-Laye, (Seine et Oise). 13 July 1949.
Sir,
Mr Lapierre, consular agent at Larnaca, before leaving on leave, informed me that you wish to communicate with me to regularise receipts relating to grants to the French Archaeological Mission of 1948. I am at your disposal, either by correspondence at the address of the Direction Générale des Relations Culturelles, Ministère des Affaires Étrangères (at the attention of the Secretary General of the Commission des Fouilles, 75 rue de Lille, Paris, or on my return to Cyprus at the end of August nextcoming, address: c/o Service des Antiquités, Nicosia, or Barclays Bank, Famagusta.
You must in the meantime have received a notice from the same administration concerning a grant of 2.000 Cypriot pounds for the resumption of the excavations which has just been. These will take place from the end of August. My two architects, MM. Pironin and Forrer will arrive at Limassol with the Ionia, leaving Marseille on 20 August; I shall follow on the Corinthia on the 27th. I would be grateful if you would transfer the grant in question to my current account at the Barclays Bank, Famagusta. I shall sign the receipts as you wish, either before my departure from here, if time still permits, the transmission to Paris before my departure, or at Nicosia or Famagusta if you would kindly send them to me in Cyprus.
I would be grateful if you would transfer the whole or part of the grant to Famagusta by 25 August, so that our work does not suffer any delay. I had sent to your attention an article concerning our work of 1947; I add here a copy in case the offprint has not reached you.
Please accept, Sir, the expression of my distinguished consideration.
