3 or 4 specialists for the clearing of the tombs and the reconstruction and preparation of the finds. Mr P.Dikaios, my former collaborator of Vounous, would be appointed deputy director under my orders and would direct the excavations during my absence. The financial management of each mission [handwritten: celle-ci] lui belongs. The excavation equipment including the finds will be provided by the Antiquities Service, which would take charge of the guarding of the site. The division of the finds would be in equal shares. The Antiquities Service would contribute to the printing costs of the publidefinitive publication, which will be in French and printed in France.

Our present excavation campaign will end on 12 October. Then MM Conche and Prironin will take care of the packing and transport while I will go to Palestine to visit the excavations at Fara and to Syria for the study of the resumption of the excavations at Ras Shamra.

On this subject I have just been informed by our ambassador at Damascus of the intention of the Syrian government (in agreement with the other Arab governments)to prohibit all archaeological excavations during the period of one year [handwritten: this] year. As the Syrian government gave me a promise before my departure, I will try to obtain a concession to continue the works for the fitting out of the camp and the site in progress.

I will keep you informed of the reception I meet with in Damascus.

The activity of the French Archaeological Mission is often mentioned in the press. Here are 6 cuttings from the Turkish, Greek and English press, —
