Monsieur P.Dikaios, my former collaborator from Vouni would be ready as deputy director under my orders and to direct the excavations during my absence. The financial management of each mission [handwritten: illegible] belongs. The excavation equipment including the finds will be to wmi by the Antiquities Service, the latter taking charge of the guarding of the site. The Antiquities Service would regard its contribution to the excavations of Enkomi as the main objective of its excavation department during b s or 6 provisional years. The division of the finds would be roughly equal. The Antiquities Service would contribute to the printing costs of the publication definitive, which will be in French and printed in France.
Our present excavation campaign will end on 12 October. Then [handwritten: illegible] 16 October and Palestine? I will go to Palestine to visit the excavations at Pare and to Syria for the study of the resumption of the excavations at Ras Shamra.
On this subject I have just been informed by our ambassador at Damascus of the intention of the Syrian government (in agreement with the other governments of the Arab states) to prohibit all archaeological excavations for the duration of one year. As the Syrian government gave me a promise before my departure, I will try to obtain a concession to continue the development works of the camp and of the site in progress. I will keep you informed of the reception I meet with in Damascus.
