Petra III… mot A shows its appearance best. A huge stone lies directly against the rock. It had lain there already before the floor was laid Some other larger stones are set in a circle around a base of flat slabs and beach stones. The whole is filled with a c. 20 cm thick burnt layer of charcoal ash character. In this, however, no finds were made. The excavation was hindered by heavy rain. Above the earth floor followed soft deposits of the same character as previously described from Petra I, among them a continuous c 8 cm thick dark black layer House 2 in Petra III lies straight over the earth floor, which constitutes Petra II, and thus fits into the relative chronology. That house 1 in Petra III is also of later date than the earth floor is however proved in other ways than by its similarity to house 2. The earth floor is namely cut off in the east in connection with the construction of house 1 (Square B 3, see the sections towards A and B.)
