Of course these walls must limit it, possibly in conjunction with the great city wall on the sea side, or with a wall in the entrance parallel to the cobble wall and corresponding to this on the other side, an upper entrance court, where one comes, after passing the fine stairs and the gateway. Now it is a matter of seeking the continuation of the entrance or the gate that leads out from this court. The wall has without interruption run round the court on the upper side and to the north, and no clearly detectable door or gate has been found anywhere. Nevertheless it must be presupposed that one existed. Evidently the threshold level has been destroyed, like the botten level that once formed the floor. Trial trench 5 gave no guidance in the searches for the continuation of the entrance upward, why these trial trenches are to be placed c. 25 m. further north.
