Sarcophagi, Cyprus

Stone sarcophagus with a carved garland and two knotted ribbons across its front panel — Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Csn3589. Public domain (CC0).

Description

A stone sarcophagus with a thick, flat lid is photographed from the front against a plain wall and a tiled floor. The front panel carries a raised garland swagging across its width, with two knotted ribbons hanging below, framed by moulded borders at top and bottom. Its base supports are uneven, with some broken pieces, and the surface shows wear and cracks.
