Sarcophagi, Cyprus

Carved stone relief of a standing figure in long drapery, set in a recessed panel, from Cyprus — Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Csn3588. Public domain (CC0).

Description

A carved stone slab shows a standing figure in relief inside a recessed frame. The figure wears long, pleated drapery to the feet, with arms bent and one hand gathered at the chest, and the head is framed by a rounded hairstyle or veil with a worn face. The top edge of the slab is broken, and a small handwritten mark sits near the top; the stone is photographed straight on against a plain wall.
