Cypriote mining: ancient ladder (detail) and ancient hand windlass

Description

A grey-toned photograph of a weathered wooden piece lying against a dark background, with a metal ruler laid alongside it for scale. The wood is a broad beam with a notch cut into one side, a rounded knot and visible grain cracks. The picture is turned on its side, so the ruler's numbers run vertically, and no hand windlass is visible.
