Limestone Proto-Cypriote, Ar.

Limestone sculpted head with a flat headdress, heavy-lidded eyes and side locks, photographed on a card mount — Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, C03489. Public domain (CC0).

Description

A carved limestone head is shown frontally against a plain background, mounted on a card. The face has heavy-lidded eyes, a small mouth and a broad nose that is chipped, and a long crack runs across the brow and nose. Curled side locks frame the cheeks beneath a flat cap-like headdress, and the head rests on a broad block-shaped base.
