Marble Sculpture

Back view of a carved stone head with grooved hair and a braided band, set on a pale neck support and plinth — Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, C03328. Public domain (CC0).

Description

The head is photographed from behind on a pale, plain neck support standing on a rectangular plinth against a light grey background. The hair is rendered with fine vertical grooves over the crown and a twisted, plaited band across the lower back. The surface is dark and mottled with pale patches, and the lower edge of the head shows a break where it meets the neck.
