Marble Sculpture

Marble head of a figure with curled hair, nose broken and one eye damaged, on a square base — Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, C03327. Public domain (CC0).

Description

A carved head with a rounded cap of hair, its front rows of curls set in ridges, rising from a short neck on a square block base. The nose is broken away and the area around the eye on the viewer's left is worn and chipped, while the other eye and the mouth are largely intact. A crack runs across the lower neck, and the head is photographed against a plain light backdrop.
