Limestone Cypro-Greek I Kition III, statuette (K. 569)

Limestone head from Kition with downcast eyes and a close-fitting headdress, neck broken off — Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, C02863. Public domain (CC0).

Description

Close front view of a limestone head with a band-like headdress framing the face. The eyes are narrowed and downcast, the nose is straight and the mouth closed in a faint smile, while the stone is rough and pitted, especially on the right cheek. The neck ends in a broken edge, and a small blue paper tag shows at the lower right against a plain light background.
