Description

Men crowd together on a shaded café terrace under a wooden canopy, with a large drooping tree and an arcaded building behind them. A woman in a cloche hat and light coat sits near the centre beside a small wooden table holding cups and a glass. Seated men in caps and jackets lean in at the front, while others stand packed together behind, some wearing fezzes and headcloths.

A large crowd of men, most in dark suits, waistcoats, caps and hats, is packed onto a covered terrace. A woman in a light hat and coat sits near the centre beside a small wooden table with cups and a plate. Arched doorways and a hanging tree with long, drooping branches appear behind the group.

English, translated from the Swedish record

Kafeneion in Kalavasos. A kafeneion is a Greek café where the men gather to discuss and drink coffee. Mainly men in the picture, but a woman sits in the middle, next to the table. Possibly this is Vivi Gjerstad wearing a hat. To the left of her sits Alfred Westholm (Alfiros), seen in profile.

Kafeneion i Kalavasos. Svenska Cypernexpeditionen.
