Terracotta head of the Great Goddess with calathos, Salamis

Object card for a head of the Great Goddess with a calathos, in Classical style, from the area south of the rampart in Salamis; inventory Tc_1864, negative 01144_06, plate PL_02, square K VI/γ4 (east). The incomplete head preserves the left part of the face, the calathos and the shoulder; salmon-coloured fabric, hollow mould. It has a twisted parotid lock, a calathos forming a band at its base with a row of cabochon rosettes and a row of larger flat pastilles, and an undecorated top. Earring: convex pastille and conical pendant. A round-bead necklace in the rounded neckline of the tunic supports a crescent moon at its centre. The back is well joined to the front; the mouth is marked by a simple slit; the nose is round and in low relief; the eye appears half-closed; the chin is receding; the hair is apparently wavy, in a continuous frontal roll; H. approx. 8 cm. 2 September 1969.

Boucle d'oreille : pastille convexe et pendant conique. Du buste ne subsiste que l'épaule.
