Terracotta head of the Great Goddess with calathos, Salamis
Object card: 1969. Mission archéologique française de Kition-Salamine (MOM, Lyon), Nakala, SAL_4836. "Terracotta head of the Great Goddess with calathos, Salamis". CC BY 4.0. Resized.
Moulded hollow head of the Great Goddess with a calathos, from Salamis, Cyprus; Classical period. Red fabric with cream slip, heavily worn; the calathos appears broken at the top, with a flattened nose, chipped nose and chin, and effaced facial features. The back is convex with deep finger impressions along the edges. The calathos rises undecorated apart from a row of more or less flat pellets, closing at the lower edge with a thin fillet; the mouth is closed with tight, thick lips, and the hair forms a thick roll with a vague median parting. H. 10.3 cm; the head is perhaps complete, and the calathos perhaps open. Found in the area south of the rampart, square K VI/δ4; inventory Tc_1783; notebook page 45; slide C_4844; negative 01075_01; 28 August 1969.
