26. Dec 2nd: Today finished the re-separation of the chariot-group baskets, and simultaneously Christos and I have set to work on these groups, trying to join into some order this mass of broken parts. I've spent the whole day lettering chariot parts, and probably will spend a good bit of tomorrow at the same task. The boys were given chariot pieces which needed heads, so we are all combining efforts on the difficult and hazy groups. No of joins: 22

Dec. 3rdToday I set the boys in the workroom at finding exclusively joins for chariot groups, while Christos and I, using three packing cases, set up one more "table" in our room and moved out the pieces of broken chariots to it, where we could work in earnest on them. We thus have the whole force now united in an effort to make something of this important group. I spent the rest of the day in going through all possible hide-outs of chariot parts, lettering them and bringing them out. No of joins in workroom 17 (which we now supplement considerably).

Dec 4thSunday and, aside from some photography this morning, no work.

27 Dec. 5th Today I finished the labelling of all chariot parts. For preliminary arrangement they have been thus separated: 1. Parts of bodies with heads; left with others 2. Bases of bodies without heads 3. Bodies with heads 4. Wheels and parts needing wheels 5. Single sides with wheel 6. Single wheelless sides 7. Bases showing joins below (drawing) 8. Bases without joins below 9. Small parts. 10. All "dark red clay" pieces All wheels were marked and placed out, and all shields are likewise marked and placed in the workroom. All pieces for horses feet are in sacks, labelled. Joins (workroom only) 12 (all chariot parts)

Dec 6thToday Christos and I spent most of our time at joining chariot parts, with most satisfactory results. The boys were set to joining bodies of charioteers with heads, so that all hands are still at work on the chariots. The photos came back today, showing that a photo of a head itself, taken on ground glass and turned with the top of the head toward the light, is the best. Number of joins (workroom only) 12

Dec 7Work proceeded as yesterday, but, consistent with my policy of having
